Lots of us focus on how we are going to get fit in the New Year. After the decadence and frivolity of the festive season, and often after reflection about the changes we need to make for ourselves, our health and our wellbeing generally, it is usual to decide we are going to make a difference and get healthy.

For some of us it lasts as long as the first month’s gym membership! But for others the pressure of time, family or work takes it toll. The dark month of January is a difficult month to think about spending more time in the fresh air, or eating salad. I mean why would you? Lettuce isn’t sponge pudding and custard, and a nice crumble and a lazy Sunday afternoon watching black and white movies is much more comforting than a bracing walk in the rain! Fair play to anyone who beats that cycle and sticks with it! And good luck to all those who are attempting MIND’s challenge to Run Every Day in January for Mental Health Awareness!

But the reality is that January is a time when so many deadlines start to loom. Financial year end starts to get closer, quarter ends are due at a time when most staff and volunteers have shut down for a week or two. Finances are often stretched and everyone is looking forward to the first pay day of 2018 to breathe some life into personal finances.

Spare a thought then for the Volunteer Treasurer. The unpaid Treasurer who at this time of year is often chasing money and unpaid in more ways than one! In order to help though we are offering a range of services to support organisations at this difficult time of year.

Our Community Accountancy Service is able to support you with payroll and auto-enrollment, and can undertake routine book-keeping as well. We are also now booking in for year end appointments and account preparation – for more information please contact Rachel on 01724 845155 or email finance@vanl.org.uk

In addition we are delighted that Carol Thornton, our former Community Development Worker, known to many organisations locally and who has been such a supporter of the Sector in North Lincolnshire is returning to provide our Funding Surgeries. With a wealth of experience Carol will support organisations to develop funding applications and to identify suitable funding pots as well as developing plans for growth. Her first surgery is on 11th January here at our Robert Street offices and to book in please email enquiries@vanl.org.uk or call us on 01724 845155.
