Our Achievements Over 20 Years

‘In the 21st century, I think the heroes will be the people who will improve the quality of life, fight poverty and introduce more sustainability.’

Bertrand Piccard
VANL was formed in June 1997 following the merger of Scunthorpe CVS and Glanford CVS, under the chairmanship of Allen Ransome, who still chairs the Board of Trustees. Over the years we have worked with thousands of voluntary organisations and volunteers to improve life for the most vulnerable. Our aims and purposes remain to make life better for those in our community, through a variety of services, projects and training as well as through representation.

Have a look at some of the Highlights from our twenty years – and please do send in any photos, stories or memories you have from the work of VANL.

Starting with 1998 – a year of challenge and change – our achievements were phenomenal and varied, and feature our longest-serving staff member, Liz Crowston.

Moving forwards year by year 1999 showcases our developing services and project work, consolidating the work of the previous organisations and hard work of staff over the end of the millennium.

Our current Chief Executive, Carole Phillips, started in 2000, and commenced a process of consolidation over 2000, which saw a year of development in 2001. 2002 was a year of growth, leading to 2003 and the use of new technologies. 2004 was a year in which the world saw ‘big personalities’ and VANL mirrored this with ‘big outcomes’, followed by a year of change and evolution in 2005.

The second half of the decade started with another year of consolidation after big events and big outcomes in 2006.
