We are contacting all community groups and contacts regarding the work that is being undertaken by the CCG in North Lincolnshire to take forwards social prescribing.

There are many definitions of social prescribing but the one that is being proposed  by the CCG Steering group is  – “an offer of non-medical referral options which can be used in conjunction with current interventions to improve both the physical and mental health and well-being of people’ examples of non medical interventions’

We are emailing to invite you to the second stakeholder meeting for VCS groups which will be held at Scunthorpe and District Mind , Fenton Street, Scunthorpe from 2 – 4 p.m (we may well finish earlier).

The purpose of this meeting is to identify how VCS groups can best participate in a social prescribing model within North Lincolnshire. The findings from this group will be represented at the Steering Group established by the CCG.

Key Issues for us to identify and put forwards to the steering group are

  • What activities and services are provided by VCS groups that can contribute to a social prescribing model?. Examples can be varied and may include gardening clubs, talking therapies, art groups, welfare and debt advice.
  • We also aim to establish what capacity needs groups or organisations have to meet with potential increased demand created by social prescribing.
  • What gaps in provision/services do you feel exist for people in north Lincolnshire ?

Thank you to those organisations that have responded to these questions following our last meeting.

If you are unable to attend the meeting on the 24th please either email me or connect on the telephone.

Please feel free to distribute this invitation to any group or person you feel may be interested.

For those of you who didn’t hear it there was a very interesting piece on Radio 4 Health Matters this week regarding an allotment project which is part of social prescribing in Gloucester this is the link if you would like to listen http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07x2zpb
