2003 – new technologies and innovation
2003 saw major changes in leadership across the world, as well as new technologies being harnessed.
- The last successful communication was received with the NASA space probe, Pioneer 10
- The Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry with the loss of all 7 astronauts on board
- Troops captured Baghdad signalling the end of Saddam Hussein’s regime, which crumbled 2 days later
- An earthquake in Northern Algeria killed 2000 people
- Finding Nemo was released in cinemas
- Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Manchester United
New technologies were being used here too:
- First VANL and project websites were created
- The first template Child Protection Policy was developed, suitable for any group in North Lincolnshire to adapt for their needs
- The Millennium Volunteers project developed greatly and was extended to more 16-25 year olds
- A number of Volunteering Fairs were held in different locations
- An environmental Action Plan was launched
