Role Description

Volunteer Ambassadors

About Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire

Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire (VANL) exists to develop and promote local voluntary and community groups in order to improve the quality of life for individuals, groups and communities. This requires us to work actively with other agencies to combat poverty and disadvantage which may exclude or constrain the opportunities of many individuals, groups and communities from full participation in civic life. We are a Registered Charity Number 1063019. Our accredited Volunteer Centre supports volunteer placements and can offer additional brokerage services.

In addition we work with some of the most vulnerable individuals and groups in our communities. We currently provide Street Outreach support for Street Sex Workers, Sexual Health Clinics for Young People and Family Support Volunteers for families affected by substance misuse as well as employability support for those affected by long term unemployment.

About the opportunity

Traditionally our services have been funded through a combination of membership fees as well as statutory and non-statutory grant funding. Whilst our membership remains steadfast, our statutory funding no longer exists, and yet the need for our services is as great if not greater than ever. We need individuals to act as Ambassadors for VANL and our services, to actively promote and seek funding from different sources, including philanthropic groups, grant funders and businesses within our community who are concerned with social justice.

Main Tasks might include:

Letter writing to introduce the work of VANL and our projects and invite sponsorship/financial support
Representing Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire at local events
Collecting money/donations
Giving presentation on the work of Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire and its projects
Assisting with the planning and implementation of events or organising events in local communities to raise funds for our work such as a charity  ball, or other fundraisers or encouraging others to undertake fundraising events for us
Providing information about Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire where necessary

There are benefits to volunteers including the satisfaction that they are helping the community and indirectly helping other organisations.

What are we looking for?

A willingness to raise awareness of the charity and what it does in the local area to the general public and to encourage donations to be made.
You will need:
Excellent communication & written skills

Passion for the work, the organisation and the voluntary sector and  determination
Ability to self motivate and work on your own

Practical Considerations

Must Have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people and groups
  • Passion for social justice
  • Enthusiasm for the local area and commitment to making life better
  • Driving Licence is an advantage.
