Winterton Big Local
The Big Lottery has looked at the UK and found that some areas claim less than their fair share of Lottery funds. To begin to remedy this situation, the Big Lottery has decided to choose communities in each of these areas to receive £1m to support the areas with their long-term development plans. Winterton in North Lincolnshire is one of the first of these communities.
Local people will help invest £1 million of Big Lottery Funding over 10 years, to make Winterton a better place to live, now and in the future. The money will be made available over a 10-year period, and the Big Local Trust (BLT) has been set up to oversee the process.
The Big Lottery Fund gives money to good causes. The Big Lottery Fund has invested £200m in a new trust to fund the BLT, so nothing will be taken away from the £1m for Winterton and local people in each area will decide how it is spent.
Winterton people are now being asked to decide what needs to be done in their community. To support this work The Big Lottery has given a small grant to Winterton, through Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire, to help people think about how they would like their area to change over the next ten years. Some research has already taken place, and further events will reach people who have not responded already.
A system will need to be set up to enable local people to decide which applications will receive some of the money, and the BLT will oversee the process. The BLT will need a ten-year plan for Winterton to guide decisions, and the research will be used to help write the plan.
A committee of local people has been chosen to assess whether applications for funding fit the ten-year plan. For more information, leave your contact details with Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire by phoning 01652 633297 or email Carol Thornton.
