Children’s act summary

The Children Act 2004 provides a legislative platform for improving the life chances of all children. The overall purpose of the Act is to encourage integrated planning, commissioning and delivery of children’s services as well as improve multi-disciplinary working, remove duplication, increase accountability and improve the coordination of individual and joint inspections in local authorities. The Act created the first Children’s Commissioner for England in 2004 and sets out the remit of the Children’s Commissioner.
