Chat-a group

New group to meet in Scunthorpe Central Library

On Thursday 23rd February Scunthorpe Library services and Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire will launch Newspaper Chat - a group based at Scunthorpe Central Library which will be open to all who wish to discuss what’s currently happening in the world.  Topical issues like the economy, banks, services, wars, drought and famine, climate change are sure to make newspaper headlines but they will only feature as discussions if you feel they should.

There will be plenty of opportunity to talk about what has been happening in the papers during the week and start discussions that interest you.

Guest speakers from a range of backgrounds including Journalists, the NHS and local business will attend the group on certain weeks to join in the conversation.

A facilitator will be on hand who will suggest topical subjects during the sessions and occasional guest speakers will come in to talk about their specialist area.

The group’s launch will take place on Thursday 23rd February at 11am. The guest speaker at the launch will be freelance journalist, Nigel Fisher.

Please .... come along and have your say about the things that interest you, tell your friends by tweeting, twittering and facebooking the ‘diary date’.

The Pub is The Hub

The Pub is The Hub is a national organisation, working particularly in rural areas, which helps pubs to diversify their offer so they meet more needs in the community. The pub may be the only facility left in the village, and diversification may mean using the pub for community activities such as cinema clubs, meals on wheels, etc., or opening a village shop on the premises.
The organisation plans to launch in this area on 6th March at Lincoln Showground. Licensees and other organisations interested in working with pubs are all invited.
This is an exciting opportunity to improve services and facilities, and help to keep pubs open at the same time.
More details will follow, or see http://pubisthehub.org.uk/

Sunday 6th May will see a half marathon road race return to Scunthorpe for the first time since 2000. Local runner Neil Pattison is working closely with Scunthorpe and District Athletic club to make it a huge success. The aim in the first year is to attract up to 1000 runners . In addition, Lindsey Lodge Hospice are putting on a one mile fun run, with expectations of a further 300 participants. They have been allocated a number of free places in the half marathon as well as exploring other fund raising opportunities on the day.
