The changing face of voluntary work

Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire is a member organisation.

Voluntary organisations pay a small fee to join, and may then access a range of extra benefits, such as services at reduced cost, advance information and the opportunity to meet others doing similar work.

The services accessible at reduced price include IT, training, office services, equipment loan, volunteer recruitment and financial services.

As the voluntary sector is pushed more and more towards sustainable operation (i.e. making the money you want to spend on services yourself) and having to tender for contracts, the services on offer from Voluntary Action become more and more valuable.

There will soon be a stark choice: cut your operations to the level you can finance yourself through fundraising events and subscriptions, or work towards a quality mark and learn how to tender for contracts. Grants are reducing, and although loans are available you will need an income before you can consider taking one out to extend your services.

This is not all doom and gloom – making your organisation more efficient will make your work easier in the long term, and you will be better able to recruit volunteers if they can use the experience on their CVs. Plus, if your income is earned you don’t have to answer to grant funders’ requirements all the time and that could free up huge amounts of time.

To find out more, call VANL on 01724 845155 and request membership details.

Community action against crime: Innovation fund

Local funder grant panels will be used to determine which grant applications to recommend for funding because they are aware of what local issues are and whether applications can address them.

TO GET FUNDING: The Community action against crime: innovation fund will encourage effective partnerships to get everybody working together to tackle crime. It will be used to encourage voluntary and community groups to work with their community safety partnership to tackle local crime problems, including through co-design and co-delivery of initiatives to cut crime. Applications from grassroots community activists who are not traditional recipients of government grants are encouraged. Community action against crime: Innovation fund is funded by the Home Office and delivered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF).
